Chifira Village

Donated By: Tom and Marsha Defnall

Dedicated On: November 13, 2012

Testimony : Chifira Village is located about 120 km from Mzuzu in the northern region. With a population of about 700 people the village is one of the many in Malawi that has water problems. The village had been relying on a stream that is located in the hills and somewhat an unprotected shallow well. This makes it difficult for the villagers, some of whom are old women, to find reliable and potable water. Group village Headman Chiweyo told the team that there was a rampant spread of water borne diseases that hit the area in 2011. The villagers greatly appreciate the water well and the villagers have set up a committee that will be responsible for the well in terms of maintenance and day to day cleaning so that it serves them better and longer.
